What is Dry Eye?

Treatment Options

When treating your dry eye, there are options available. The right treatment plan will be customized based on the results of your consultation and these treatment options.

  • LipiFlow® Thermal Pulsation Therapy

A painless, fast in-office treatment that applies soothing heat and gentle pressure to clear the blocked glands that secrete oil in the eye and restore normal function to your meibomian glands. This twelve-minute procedure will leave you feeling better and ready to get back to life.

  • Punctal Plug Therapy

Punctal plugs are inserted into a patient’s tear ducts to block drainage and relieve dry eye. Often called punctum plugs, lacrimal plugs or occluders, they are recommended as treatment when eye drops aren’t successful. Punctal plugs are either semi-permanent (silicone based) or dissolvable (collagen based) and are inserted into the tear ducts during an exam and can be easily removed if they become uncomfortable. Dissolvable plus usually disappear after a few weeks or months.

  • BlephEx® Microblepharoexfoliation

BlephEx treats patients suffering from blepharitis, a chronic inflammatory disease of the eyelid caused by an overgrowth of normal bacteria living along the. Symptoms can include irritation, foreign body sensation, dry or crusty eyes, swollen eyelids, watering, or eyelids that appear greasy. BlephEx treatment is a painless and quick in office procedure that cleans and exfoliates the eyelid and lashes and helps increase your production of natural tears. In just 4 weeks, you’ll feel better and relieved.

  • Amniotic Membrane Therapy

Amniotic membrane therapy is basically a “stem cell” treatment with several uses. It can be used in corneal reconstruction for patients with chemical and thermal burns. The anti-inflammatory graft is used to minimize the buildup of scar tissue and help tears move across the eye. This treatment has also been used successfully with significant dry eye, as well as a number of other chronic corneal conditions.

  • Oral Nutraceutical Therapy

Often we recommend foods that are high in amino acids, Vitamin D, lycopene and beta-carotene to treat dry eye.

  • Albumin Eye Drops

A protein enriched tear supplement that serves as a substitute for serum based eye drops.
