Dr. Veliky graduated with honors from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society, and completed the college honors program with a research project on the leading causes of blindness. He further completed his optometric education at the New England College of Optometry and is a member of Beta Sigma Kappa. Post graduation he completed a one-year residency at Omni Eye Services (NJ) specializing in ocular disease. After his residency at Omni he was asked to remain on staff as a consultative optometrist. He assumed the role of center director of the Iselin office in 2004, a position he still holds today.
Dr. Veliky is a member of several professional optometric organizations, including the American Optometric Association and the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians. He is President of the Mid Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, and heads the continuing education section of that same local chapter. He is a member of several committees within the state optometric society including the Clinical Care Committee, Industry Relations Committee, and the Young OD Task Force, a new program whose goal is to educate recent optometric grads on the benefits of membership to their state society. As a teacher of 4th year externs from differing colleges of optometry, he holds the position of adjunct faculty for New England College of Optometry, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, The Ohio State University- College of Optometry, and SUNY College of Optometry. Dr. Veliky is also a lifetime member of the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanities (VOSH), and is involved in the "Opening Eye's" program for the New Jersey chapter of the summer games at the Special Olympics.
Dr. Veliky is committed to expanding the educational experience for all of the students and doctors he works with, and is the Director of the Residency program at Omni Eye Services. He recently co-authored a major article on Angle Closure Glaucoma in the July 2006 issue of Review of Optometry and has lectured to numerous optometric societies throughout the state of New Jersey. He also holds periodic workshops and lectures in the Iselin office for the educational benefit of his fellow peers.
