General Ophthalmologists

Most eye surgeons are generalists and spend their time performing eye exams and treating simple eye conditions. Despite their surgical training, they perform few surgical procedures. This approach may have worked in the past; however, today, with the explosion of medical knowledge that has occurred in the past several decades, it is impossible for the general eye surgeon to provide a sophisticated level of care in all areas. Today, recognized areas of subspecialty eye care include Retina, Glaucoma, Cataract, Oculoplastics, Refractive surgery, Cornea, Neuro-ophthalmology, and Pediatrics.

The Omni Difference

All of our surgeons have completed additional training following residency in their respective area of specialization. This additional fellowship training provides them with in-depth experience to deliver the most sophisticated level of care. They limit their practice to their respective specialty and do not provide routine eye care. This allows them to stay current in their specialty and assures you that they have the training and experience to deal with the most difficult problems. Our surgeons also spend a lot of their time performing surgery. This keeps their surgical skills sharp and up-to-date, with results that are a cut above those surgeons who do not perform the volume of surgery needed to keep their skills keen. All of our surgeons also are affiliated with the premier teaching hospitals in New York City, staying involved with education and maintaining their level of expertise.

The Team Approach

Omni’s doctors do not provide routine eye examinations, eyeglass prescriptions, contact lenses, low-vision or visual training. In most instances, patients come to us from their family eye doctor or primary care physician to diagnose or treat eye disease. Your optometric physician will provide most of your eye care and eye health care needs, including the treatment of most eye diseases. When complex or sight-threatening conditions occur, however, you will want to be seen by the specialists who have the most experience and will offer you the best chance to preserve your vision. Sight is your most precious gift, and you deserve the best treatment that is available. That care is now available at convenient local locations.
