Menka S Patel, MD, MSc
Menka S. Patel, MD, MSc, specializes in the medical and surgical management of the cornea, external diseases, cataract, and refractive surgery. Her areas of expertise include corneal transplants, endothelial keratoplasty, superficial keratoplasty, corneal degenerations/dystrophies, corneal ectasia including keratoconus, and infectious diseases. Dr. Patel provides exceptional eye care to Omni patients at the following offices of New York City, West Orange, and Iselin.
Dr. Patel graduated from the University of Louisville where she received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology along with several departmental honors and as a Vogt and Provost Scholar. She received her Master’s of Science in Microbiology at Thomas Jefferson University with exceptional grades and selected as the Loretta Rocco Memorial Scholar. Dr. Patel received her medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences with a completion of the Global Health Track; she also received an academic award for her exemplary work in her graduating class. She completed her internship at the New York City Health + Hospitals Woodhull Medical Center, followed by residency training in ophthalmology at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Patel completed her training in Cornea, External Diseases, and Refractive Surgery at the prestigious Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute of the Columbia University.
Currently, Dr. Patel performs the following corneal transplants: PK - Penetrating Keratoplasty, DSAEK - Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty, and DMEK - Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty, and DALK- Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty. Furthermore, she performs collagen crosslinking for treatment of keratoconus. Dr. Patel also offers refractive surgery including LASIK and PRK.
Dr. Patel has had several publications and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the Refractive Surgery Alliance Society (RSA), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).
